2018 - A Year in review
Tech-Girls offers programs across the K-12 spectrum. The focus through all the opportunities we offer girls in the community is to spark their interest in technology and computer science, build their confidence, nurture an inclusive community and help girls develop their own tech identity. Here are some highlights from 2018!
- 9 Girls’ Geek Day sessions hosted at Greer Elementary School, St. Anne’s-Belfield School, Stone Robinson Elementary School, V.L. Murray Elementary School, UVA GradSWE, ESTEAM Summit for Girls, Crozet Elementary School, Broadus Wood Elementary School and Meriweather Lewis Elementary School with an average attendance of 60 K-5 girls.
- Launched Girls Who Code Clubs, a free program for girls in middle school to explore coding in a fun and friendly way, in partnership with St. Anne's-Belfield School and Computers4Kids.
- 15 young women from twelve high schools participated in 5th annual Bio-Med Tech-Girls program, a partnership with UVA BME, St. Anne's-Belfield School and the i.Lab at UVA.
- Provided hands-on tech and computer science activities at Kid*Vention Family Science Festival, UVA Ladies in the Lab and YWLP (Young Women Leaders Program) UVA Day.
- In addition to the organizations named above, we are thankful to Charlottesville Business Innovation Council (CBIC), Piedmont Student Launch Team, Junior League of Charlottesville and UVA’s Christ, Gahlmann, Griffin Link, and Saucerman Labs for their support!
